Policy and Program
Co-design

It is an attractive prospect to envisage a future in which the Australian community feels a real sense of inclusion in the development of public policy and planning

The public sector in Australia is increasingly recognising the value of co-design methods, in which government, stakeholders and the community come together to contribute to the development of policy and programme initiatives.

The Woolcott Group has been pioneering the application of participatory, deliberative methods of consultation for the past ten years. The essential elements of the approach include:

➢ research recruitment methods to give truly
    representative coverage
   ➢ information input
➢ time for participant deliberation and trade off
   ➢ shared solutions.

This kind of engagement represents a very significant move forward from traditional methods of community consultation, which are often felt to be dominated by vested interests.
